The Tiwi Warrior and the Samurai from the Sky
War brought them together. Their encounter made history.
A wartime encounter on the Tiwi Islands
On the day Darwin was bombed, Japanese Zero pilot Hajime Toyoshima crash-landed on Melville Island. Tiwi man Matthias Ulungura captured him, becoming part of an extraordinary wartime story that connects two men, two cultures and a turning point in Australian history.
The Tiwi Warrior and the Samurai from the Sky is a documentary from Small Screen Productions, independent documentary producers based in Darwin, Northern Territory.
